Ideas Every Day #238 – Personal Book Search

I’m a big fan of books.  When I read them I love underlining them, putting notes or aha moments & ideas in the margin and having the physical book I can touch and feel.  The only problem I have is that when I encounter a question or situation in real life, where I’d love to be able to reference back to or re-read something I read, I can’t always remember which book it was in.

If I own the book, why can’t I search it’s full contents and be able to read specific parts of the book where my search was applicable.   To build my personal library I could snap a picture of the cover, or have it pulled from my Amazon purchases.  Then the entire text would be searchable and my search index would expand across every book I’ve ever read.

Seems like a nice way to continue to expand the effect of a good book.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good reader like the Kindle and the notes feature and being able to see what others have highlighted is great too, but nothing beats reading offline and having the physical book.

Yes, and…
