I’m in the process of looking for a playhouse & swing type set for my kids. I’d really like to do something cool, semi-unique, and more-sensible than buying something new and then getting rid of it in a couple years.
In a perfect world I’d take pieces of many different styles that the kids like, take some parts from the many friends that have offered their old sets and renovate them a little (like this tire ladder swingset), and get some pieces that aren’t usually offered to regular backyard sets but instead are on playgrounds in city parks.
After searching around I’ve realized there are not really any used playground or Playhouse Equipment salvage yards. Why not have a special, small corner of your city’s public works facility be devoted to old playground and playhouse equipment.
Seems like a good way for the town to try and upcycle some of the massive play structures that residents put in their backyards for a few years. At the very least, it’ll be a nice place to put those big backyard toys vs. just leaving them in the trash when the kids grow up.
Oh, and Happy 4th of July!
