Ideas Every Day #41 – Re-doing the Fire Alarm

Fire Alarms are ubiquitous, yet they generally only do one thing.  How about leveraging the backbone that fire alarms are built off of (wiring and communication networks) to greatly enhance what they’re capable of.

Here are a few examples of what to integrate into the little unit:

  • Built in sensors monitor room temperature and can change heating and cooling settings.
  • heat sensors that tell the Fire Department not only is there a fire, but exactly where it is.
  • motion and light sensors
  • re-brand it as an ’emergency alarm’ so people know to use it no matter what the emergency
  • 2 way communication with emergency dispatchers

Seems like a lot more can be done.

Yes, and…
