Tonight is the 10th Anniversary of a fundraiser I run to help those affected by cancer. I thought it would be nice to publish a small note I put in the evening’s program so that folks that couldn’t make it to the event but who have supported the event in the past could read it. Enjoy. (Read about the start of the foundation and event here)
“Most people overestimate what they can do in a year, and grossly underestimate what they can achieve in a decade.”
-Tony Robbins & Bill Gates
When I think back to the first few months of the creation of what now has become The First Mile Foundation I think of the above quote. After ten years of serving the cancer community I don’t know if anyone in the early days (and that is many of you here tonight) thought that we would be here ten years later and that we would have helped or influenced over twenty thousand people through our programs.
Ten years may seem a distant past and a lot has happened to everybody in the audience since that first event; yet, the Foundation is still in its pre-teen years and there is the possibility of much more to come.
There are still millions of opportunities to help those affected by cancer.
If this is your first event, welcome and thanks for coming. To the rest of you, you’ve been supporting the BNB for many years and have been the key driver of its success. I hope you’ll take a moment tonight to think about the past and relish in the good times, the money raised to fund programs, the food, the prizes, the dancing, and everything else that has been great the past ten years. I also hope you’ll use tonight to have even more fun and give support.
The only reason we’ve been in a position to help others with our programs for the last ten years is because of you. Thank you.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the last yen years as much as I have. Enjoy tonight, thank you and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
