Hackathons are the New AP or Honors Courses

When I was in school an easy way to stand out on college applications was to have a couple AP or honors courses on your roster.  In fact, on some of the more “prestigious” schools they even had specific questions on the application that asked you to list out the AP courses you took.

Well, given that hackathons and events like Startup Weekends are becoming more and more popular, and that they’re a much better way of demonstrating what colleges should be looking for (IMHO), I can’t help but think how soon we’ll start seeing questions about them on college applications.

Forget college, when can we make these standard sections on resumes for people working in digital.  Is there a LinkedIn module for that?

P.S. – see you at Philly Startup Weekend in April, who wants to be on my team?
